OUR HERITAGE

In 1986, Pastor and Mrs. Gerald Reliford had a vision for a Christian school at New Life Christian Fellowship in Columbia, KY. By 1988, the school had outgrown the church facilities and they began to pray for a new building. After exploring their options, Kentucky Christian School (KCS) was formed in the fall of 1990. KCS relocated to Campbellsville in 1991.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Kentucky Christian School is to assist parents in their God-given responsibility to “train up a child in the way he should go” resulting in a Christ-like individual who is able to help carry out the “Great Commission”. Kentucky Christian School will train students spiritually, physically, and academically in a creative, loving environment.

OUR CURRENT MINISTRY

KCS has over 100 students in grades P3 – 5 with a 12 to 1 pupil-teacher ratio. We have an administrator, a director, and 24 full and part-time teachers and staff. Adjunct teachers provide instruction in music, art, Spanish, and computer. We also provide an after-school program, transportation from Columbia, and catered lunches.

As a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), KCS participates in a variety of academic competitions including: Spelling Bee, Math Olympics, Science Fair, Speech Meet, and Creative Writing Fair at the local and regional level. Additional extracurricular activities include field trips, special recognition days, and a 3-day year-end trip for the older students.

OUR PROGRESS

Teacher salaries have increased, an administrator has been hired and accreditation has begun; all three of which were our short-term goals. KCS enrollment has almost doubled in five years, increasing from 53 in 2004 to 104 in 2009, an average increase of 15% per year.

As enrollment has increased, our current facility seems to be getting smaller. Even with the addition of two rooms next door, KCS has run out of room. Our long-term goal of purchasing property and/or a building to accommodate present and future growth is still unrealized.

THE IMPACT OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Bible is taught every day, chapel services are held each Wednesday, and all subjects are taught from a Christian worldview. As a result, it is not uncommon for students to give their hearts to the Lord while at KCS.

KCS students consistently receive top honors in academic competitions. Students who have attended KCS have later distinguished themselves as:

  • Governor’s Scholars and Governor’s School for the Arts
  • Valedictorians and Salutatorians
  • National Merit Scholars
  • UK’s Singletary Scholarship recipients
  • Miss Kentucky (top 12 at Miss America)
  • Miss Kentucky Teen USA (top 15 at Miss Teen USA)
  • Taylor County Junior Miss winners (five years in a row)
  • 1st Team Academic All State recipients

THE OPPORTUNITY

Given the consistent growth in enrollment over the past five years, it is imperative for KCS to act immediately to prepare for the future. Both the Board and the Capital Fund-Raising Steering Committee are aggressively looking for land and/or an adequate building to accommodate present and future needs of the school.

THE CHALLENGE

The purchase of land and construction costs for a new school could easily top $2 million. As we face this exciting challenge, we turn to you, our friends, with three requests:

  1. Pray that KCS continues to fulfill our Mission.
  2. Consider a generous, sacrificial commitment to this project.
  3. Consider assisting KCS by being a “friend raiser.”

Countless lives have been touched over the years through the ministry of Kentucky Christian School. With God’s blessings, KCS has been successful because of the vision and active steps of faith of its leadership. This campaign is the biggest step of faith KCS has taken in its history, and it will require the same commitment from the KCS extended family to turn these dreams into reality. The chart below shows the type of gifts needed to reach our Capital Campaign goal.
